About Switch Telecom
Johannesburg-based hosted PBX provider offering the Atria platform. Common with South African enterprise and mid-market, particularly in financial services and professional services verticals.Step 1: create trunk in SmartAlex
SIP Trunk wizard, pick Other. Atria speaks standard SIP. Save credentials.Step 2: Switch Telecom portal configuration
Same two options as with other hosted PBX providers.Option A: forward a DID
- Log in to the Atria portal
- Navigate to the DID management section
- Select the target number
- Set destination to external forward, pointing at a SmartAlex-provisioned DID
Option B: SIP trunk from Atria
Switch Telecom can provision an outbound SIP trunk from Atria to an external endpoint. Contact Switch Telecom support and request:- External SIP trunk to:
sip.voice.getsmartalex.com - Authentication: credentials from SmartAlex
- Codecs: G.711 u-law, A-law
- Transport: UDP port 5060
- REFER support: enabled

Populate SmartAlex extensions (for Option B). Link agent.Step 4: test

- Atria vs their legacy platform: this guide covers Atria. Older Switch Telecom customers on the legacy platform should contact Switch Telecom to migrate to Atria first, then follow this guide.
- Caller ID: Atria handles P-Asserted-Identity correctly on forwarded calls when configured. Confirm with Switch Telecom support.
- Call recording: Atria has comprehensive recording features. Coordinate with Switch Telecom on whether Atria or SmartAlex is the primary recording source.
- Enterprise peering: Switch Telecom offers direct peering options for high-volume customers. Discuss with your account manager.
