About Euphoria Telecom

Cape Town-headquartered hosted PBX provider, common with South African SMB and mid-market. Runs a cloud-hosted softswitch with a web admin portal.

Step 1: create trunk in SmartAlex

SIP Trunk wizard, pick Other. Euphoria uses standard SIP, so generic defaults work. Save credentials.

Step 2: Euphoria portal configuration

Euphoria doesn’t traditionally expose a “create an outbound SIP trunk” feature on customer accounts. Two integration options:

Option A: forward a DID

  1. Log in to the Euphoria customer portal
  2. Navigate to Numbers or Phone Numbers
  3. Select the DID you want SmartAlex to handle
  4. Set destination to External forward with the SmartAlex-provisioned DID
This is the simplest path. Euphoria handles the DID routing; AI picks up via our DID.

Option B: SIP trunking

Euphoria can, on request and plan-dependent, configure a SIP trunk from their system to an external endpoint. Contact Euphoria support and request:
  • SIP trunk to external endpoint: sip.voice.getsmartalex.com
  • Authentication: provide the username and password from SmartAlex
  • Codecs: G.711 u-law, A-law
  • Transport: UDP port 5060
  • Transfers: REFER supported
Lead time: usually 1 to 3 business days once the request is submitted.

Step 3: extensions

If using Option A, extensions on Euphoria are reached via the caller’s existing phone number (the AI speaks the number to forward to). If using Option B, populate extensions in SmartAlex and transfer via SIP REFER. Standard.

Euphoria-specific notes

  • Call recording on Euphoria: their portal has built-in recording. If you use Option A, both Euphoria and SmartAlex may record; decide which is primary.
  • Caller ID: Euphoria’s caller ID handling on forwarded calls depends on your carrier plan. Verify with Euphoria support that P-Asserted-Identity is passed through if you need real caller ID on transfers.
  • SA Icasa compliance: Euphoria holds the carrier-side Icasa licences; your obligations are downstream.
  • MPLS or SIP peering: enterprise customers can arrange private peering to Euphoria’s core. Discuss directly with them.
